they dont sell toyos, nitto, falken, or some other major players. hardly carrying them all. Never did I say they carried them all. You said they sell a "few", which was obviously an understatement. hell, i drove on 6 different toyos on the same car. different michelins, bridgestones, falkens, goodyears, contis, etc. i choose the t1-s over them all. some have more stick, some have more tread life. some are quieter, etc etc. im sure if i called luke and asked him what would be 'best for me', hed probly say the s03s. i dont like them and would be pissed if i spent that much money on those tires. if i called and he was "well rob, i think we dont carry the tire youre looking for, try such and such place for such and such tire", then, yes, id say hes a godsend. till that happens, hes just a person with a job. and as such, his personal experiences are different than mine. does that make either one of us less credible? no. That's great. I can't laugh harder at what you said. Maybe you should actually call him, and descirbe what you want. Luke isn't a high-pressure car salesman holding a gun to your head. Both times I called him I didn't order tires at the time. I looked around for a better price and better set of tires and couldn't find any so I ordered online from TR. Both times everything Luke stated about the tires he suggested (RE730II, and S-03PP) was accurate. He told me exactly what to expect, and even told me the S-03 would probably be loud and not handle the rain like I wanted them to. my girlfriend has driven on almost all the tires i have, and straight from her mouth "its just rubber, who the hell can tell the difference?" so, technically speaking, she has 'more experience' than most that feel the need to ask for tire opinions. would you value her thoughts just as much as anyone elses? doubt it. and shell talk to you for hours as long as shes not being antisocial She might talk to me, but I wouldn't talk to her for long. I could probably tell in a second she had no interest in what she was talking about and I wouldn't waste my time. And how does her statement "its just rubber, who the hell can tell the difference?" give her more experience? If anything it shows she doesn't have a clue about tires. now if i knew exactly what tire i wanted and they carried it, thats a differnet story. even then, id go locally to a place that advertises amtching tireracks prices (pretty much everyone now a days) and see if they can beat them. most will, as they want to believe i will give them repeat business. It's been my experience most people will only match those prices, and not beat them; that is if they even accept to match online retailers. Further, Tire Rack in general can drop ship a tire to a shop faster than a shop can get it from their own warehouse! I'm also not aware of any shops that carry 26 sets of different tires for our cars, or who have employees who drive Z32s and routinely run tire test on their own track. Try finding a 245/45R16 S-03PP locally. No one near me carried it, and Tire Warehouse would take a week to get them. I also tried 2 others who didn't even want to match an online retailer, so I didn't even bother checking their stock. seeing that i have a stock pile of tires that suit my needs (as told by myself, by my own personal trial and error) at my disposal, i have no need to order tires from anyone. tirerack does not carry that particular brand tire, so luke would be useless to me in this case, as in anyone else whos looking for the same tire If you know exactly what you want and where to get it, I agree he is useless for you. But for those of us who don't know exactly, or want some guided suggestions he's great. This whole post wasn't about "why Dogpile should call Luke at Tire Rack", but how the average enthusiast could benefit from Luke. and i have 'z32 specific knowledge' and talk like a woman, so id spend probly upwards of an hour talking on the phone Great! Maybe we'll chat sometime. I like S-03PP, and if you say the t1-s is better I might give them a try. I have a clear open mind and take other's experiences and knowledge to heart. You should try it sometime. Party on.
